Gordon loves to play games, craft, paint, build with kinetic sand, jump on the trampoline, bowl and play all types of sports. Recently, he played on floor hockey and basketball teams and is looking forward to dodgeball and soccer. He loves spending time with his family dogs, Rocket and Daisy, Peter the budgie and Donkey the hamster.

As noted by Gordon’s parents, Sarah and Len: “Five Counties role in our family’s life is significant” given a rare genetic condition impacting Gordon and his brother. Read more about what Len and Sarah have to say:

“Gordon was born with a rare genetic condition called AarskogScott syndrome. This syndrome can cause many anatomical changes. For Gordon, we noticed early on he was having difficulty reaching for objects and supporting his weight with his hands due to how they were developing. He also had crooked feet which we were concerned would affect his walking abilities down the road. Thankfully we knew who to call – Five Counties.

“Our son, Jack, was born with the same genetic condition and received excellent, speech, occupational and physiotherapy support through Five Counties.

“At Five Counties, Gordon received a thorough assessment to see what support he would need. We were connected with an occupational and physiotherapist. They provided us with activities we could practice at home and excellent monitoring and support to ensure Gordon was progressing and meeting developmental milestones. We also received a referral to get splints for Gordon to help correct his crooked feet.

“Gordon has now “graduated” from Five Counties. He participates in daily activities without any concerns. Before we were discharged from treatment, therapists reassured us that we could call if we have any concerns as Gordon grows.

“Five Counties role in our family’s life is significant. Having two boys with a rare genetic condition is scary and leaves you with many questions. Five Counties helps relieve the stress and fear surrounding the diagnosis with their resources, support and reassurance they will be there for us. We appreciate all the services we needed were provided in one building. It was helpful not to travel to different places to receive the various support services our children required.

“By supporting Five Counties, you ensure there is enough staff to help kids and families receive support locally and help more children avoid the waitlist.”
