Meet Arthur, a little boy with a big spirit.
Arthur’s personality lights up every room he enters. But his journey has been far from easy.
At just three months old, Arthur was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that had wrapped around his spine. The diagnosis left him paralyzed from the waist down. His family remembers those early days as “frightening, overwhelming, and filled with uncertainty.”
After months of treatment at a children’s hospital in Toronto, Arthur came to Five Counties needing intensive therapy to rebuild strength, mobility, and confidence. He needed help learning skills most children develop naturally in their first year of life.
Because of donors like you, Arthur is now receiving the occupational therapy and physiotherapy that is helping him roll over, strengthen his core, and begin sitting with support.
As Arthur’s guardian, Delaney, notes: “Five Counties helped Arthur overcome big challenges and gain confidence. If we didn’t go to Five Counties, his life would be more difficult.”
Every day at Five Counties Children’s Centre, kids like Arthur work courageously to overcome challenges most of us will never face. And every day, the generosity of donors make it possible for them to grow, learn and thrive!
In Their Own Words
“When Arthur was diagnosed, I felt scared, sad, mad, and like the world had stopped moving. Following his treatment for neuroblastoma, Arthur began coming to Five Counties in the fall of 2024 to assist with his rehab and recovery from the impact of cancer. He has benefitted greatly from both occupational therapy and physical therapy at Five Counties, making great strides to focus on his goals of building core strength, rolling over, and sitting up independently…
“Five Counties staff supported us through an incredibly difficult time. Arthur would not have the mobility he has today without the Centre. Five Counties has changed Arthur’s life, and we are forever grateful.”
– Delaney, Arthur’s Guardian
