In this presentation Charlie shares current research, best practices, relevant legislation, and what their family has learned on their continuing journey to understand gender identity and expression. She is joined by her mother, Ann, a former teacher and special education specialist, and author.  Ann concludes the session with an impactful 10-minute meditation, and an open question and answer forum where educators are encouraged to discuss and share their understanding of gender, in a safe and inclusive environment.

*This event will be recorded and posted on the IIQ JEDI website.

Presented by: Charlie Lowthian-Rickert and Ann Lowithian awarded the ‘Joan Gullen Award’ for community service, and a “Femmy” award in 2017 for her ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and gender equity.  Charlie Lowthian-Rickert is a seventeen-year-old human rights advocate, who wants to make the world a safer place for transgender and gender fluid people. The summer of 2016 was especially memorable for Charlie, working with the Canadian Human Rights Commission on a video as well as working with the United Way on the #PathtoPride campaign, and as the youngest Grand Marshal of Ottawa Capital Pride.
