At Five Counties, we know that ensuring timely access to supports and services means better outcomes for our kids and our communities.
That is why we were very happy to welcome Peterborough—Kawartha MPP Dave Smith to our Dr. Mary Thain Site in Peterborough for the announcement of increased government funding to children’s treatment centres as outlined in Ontario’s 2021 Budget.
“This announcement is wonderful news for Five Counties’ kids and families,” said Scott Pepin, CEO Five Counties Children’s Centre. “This investment will help decrease wait times for critical development and rehab services so more kids and families in our communities will receive timely support. Thank you, Minister Fullerton, MPP Dave Smith, Minister David Piccini, MPP Laurie Scott and all Ministers of Provincial Parliament for this investment in our kids.”
During the visit, MPP Smith was given a short tour of the Centre which included demonstrations of the various ways our staff have adapted delivery of our in-person therapy services (with OT Ashley Parsons in full PPE) and our virtual therapy services (with OT Victoria Zotz) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Last year we served over 4,430 children and families and the demand for our therapy and support services is ever-increasing. This funding will help us increase our capacity for care and begin to address the significant and growing wait times for care at home, in schools and in our communities.
