A $3,000 donation to the Building Abilities for Life Campaign from the Rotary Club of Peterborough will help Five Counties Children’s Centre provide speech and communication services to more children and youth in our community.

Five Counties is dedicated to working with families and community partners to provide innovative, evidence-based care for children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs; enhancing their independence and enriching their quality of life. Five Counties serves the counties of Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The Rotary Club of Peterborough helped found Five Counties over 45 years ago when the need for a children’s treatment centre in our local communities became clear. Year after year, Rotary Peterborough continues to hold fundraisers and support Five Counties in multiple ways. In 2021, Rotary Peterborough revived their golf tournament and presented Five Counties with a generous donation of $3,000.

“Since conception in 1970, its opening five years later, and through to this year, Rotary has had a special relationship with Five Counties Children’s Centre: raising funds and volunteering on their Boards. Children and seniors have been two of our main service themes for the past century. It has been a pleasure and delight to host a golf tournament with a donation to Five Counties. Thank you to Grady’s Shoes for the major sponsorship support,” says Lloyd Graham, Golf Tournament Chair.

The need for Five Counties speech-language and communication therapies grows every year. Because of the increasing need, some children must wait, falling further behind. The “Building Abilities for Life” campaign was created to help ensure kids get the treatment and support they need that will impact the rest of their lives.

Support of the “Building Abilities for Life” campaign helps a child to be the best they can be, to do things that weren’t thought to be possible, and early intervention is key. The therapy provided makes all the difference in the world to kids to encourage confidence, independence, and inclusion. The support of Rotary Peterborough makes children’s goals a reality.
