COBOURG, ON (October 24, 2024) – It’s not a hat trick, but Cougars For Kids is returning for its second year to score further fun for local families and provide an assist to kids’ treatment services in the area.
Five Counties Children’s Centre is again partnering with the Cobourg Cougars for the second annual Cougars For Kids event on Saturday, November 16. This year’s game is a matinee affair, pitting the hometown Cougars against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres at the Cobourg Community Centre (750 D’arcy St.). Puck drop is 3:30 pm, but pre-game activities with Five Counties start at 3 pm.
Game tickets for Cougars for Kids are now available through the Cobourg Cougars website. For every ticket sold to the Nov. 16 game, the Cougars are generously donating $2 to Five Counties. Kids under the age of 12 accompanied by an adult and wearing a team jersey or Five Counties clothing get into the game for free. Proceeds from Cougars for Kids will support kids’ treatment services at Five Counties in Northumberland.
“At the end of the day, we’re not just a hockey club. While our goal is to win on the ice, the Cougars also want to contribute and assist the community off the ice. Teaming up again for Cougars For Kids is a great way to do this and spotlight the incredible work that Five Counties does to support kids and families in our community,” says Erika Seggie, Director of Business Operations with the Cobourg Cougars.
Cougars For Kids will be a family affair for Five Counties, with many clients and their parents taking part or watching from the stands. Activities that are planned include:
- Five Counties kids being part of a behind-the-scenes experience at the game. Opportunities include giving a pre-game pep talk to Cougars players and being part of the broadcast crew for the game.
- A family from Five Counties doing the ceremonial pre-game puck drop.
- Pre-game fun activities featuring facepainting, giant Lego and more for the entire family.
- A silent auction fundraiser in support of Five Counties featuring an assortment of items.
- Door prizes available for people who sign up to receive Five Counties’ e-newsletter.
- A sledge hockey demonstration by members of the Northumberland Predators sledge hockey team during one of the period intermissions.
“We’re very excited to be part of the second annual Cougars For Kids game, which lets our community cheer on the Cougars while showing their support for Five Counties,” says Elizabeth Carmichael, Program Manager for Five Counties in Northumberland. “We had very positive feedback from last year’s game, and hope to score a repeat of the fun and festivities while supporting our kids and families.”
