Bryor and Brielle

Siblings Brielle and Bryor.

Bryor and Brielle are brother and sister, but they’ve also found a new, extended family at Five Counties Children’s Centre. As their parents, Holly and Brandon, tell it, while Bryor’s and Brielle’s stories are different, they are also similar in many ways:

“While each sibling is unique, both came to Five Counties early in life for support. And both are thriving as a result of the services they’ve received from Five Counties staff.

“Bryor loves building Lego and drawing. He is so creative and has been a true artist since he was little. He loves Halloween and all things spooky. The Peterborough Petes are his favourite team, and he loves watching them play any chance he gets.

“Brielle loves to get messy—the messier, the better! Whenever she is painting, she covers her whole body and then needs a bath. Mud is her best friend, with puddles a close second. She loves being outside and enjoys everything nature has to offer. Fishing is her happy place, especially when she’s with her older brother and sister.

“We first started coming to Five Counties with Bryor when he was about six months old, and we have been using their services off and on since then. As a baby, he had torticollis and plagiocephaly. Later, Bryor was diagnosed with autism. Since then, he has benefited from occupational therapy and physiotherapy at the Centre. Bryor is now 13 years old and recently had a sensory profile done by Nicole (an Occupational Therapist at Five Counties) to help with his eating challenges.

“Brielle started coming to Five Counties when she was showing signs of autism. She was diagnosed by Dr. Mary Thain and has since benefited from occupational therapy. She is now 4 years old and is currently working on her printing with Five Counties Occupational Therapist Laura, and Kay, an Occupational/ Physiotherapist Assistant at the Centre. Both are truly amazing people who care deeply about the kids they support.

“When Brielle was diagnosed, we were referred to a Social Worker at Five Counties. Caela has made such a big difference—helping with paperwork, pointing us toward resources, and guiding us to potential funding. We didn’t have a Social Worker with Bryor, and I missed some things with him because I was unaware.

“Some of the biggest challenges for Bryor and Brielle are fitting in with other kids their age, understanding social cues, and coping with change or the unknown. They also struggle to keep up in school, but Five Counties has helped them both with that.

“The biggest impact Five Counties has on our family is providing the support and resources to help Bryor and Brielle enrich their quality of life.

“I don’t know where we would be without Five Counties. We would be lost looking for answers, and my children wouldn’t be getting the support they need. Every team member I’ve worked with for both children has gone above and beyond for our family. Five Counties has changed my children’s lives and given us so much help and hope. We wouldn’t be the same without them.”
