PETERBOROUGH, ON (June 25, 2024)Cover of 2023-24 Annual ReportFive Counties Children’s Centre was pleased to hosts its 48th Annual Meeting.

Activities from the 2023-24 year were highlighted in the Centre’s newly-released Annual Report, including statistics that show a double-digit drop in the number of kids waiting for care, demand for treatment services over the past year.

Keynote Speaker

Five Counties welcomed Wesley Magee-Saxton as its keynote speaker. Wesley is a white, queer, disabled actor, writer and martial artists based in Vaughan, Ontario. Wesley’s words about inclusion, removing barriers, and creating pathways for those who are marginalized was inspiring and appreciated! With warmth, wit and wisdom, Wesley shared their story — and that of their family’s — being born 2 1/2 months prematurely with cerebral palsy and their experiences navigating and finding supports for their disability.

High-Five Community Recognition Awards

High-Five Community Award Winners 2024Five Counties was pleased to announce the 2024 winners of its High-Five Community Recognition Awards (find full details on each recipient here). Now in their fifth year, the awards recognize individuals and community group that share Five Counties’ commitment to inclusion, education and respect for all children and youth.

Award recipients included:

  • YMCA of Central East Ontario (Balsillie Branch)
  • Kawartha Gymnastics Club
  • Julie Grant, a parent and accessibility advocate
  • Cobourg Day Care
  • Jennifer Johnston, Superintendent of Learning at Trillium Lakelands District School Board
  • Mississaugas of Scugog Island (MSIFN) Maada’ooki Committee
  • Ira Taraday, of Levio Consulting
Board of Directors

Five Counties welcomed new volunteer members to its Board of Directors and Community Committee, headed again by Chair Julie Davis. The Centre also said a fond farewell to its retiring Board member, Tony Doyle.
