Five Counties Children’s Centre (FCCC) has been dedicated to supporting children and youth with physical, developmental and communications needs for 50 years. In partnership with families and communities, we provide outpatient and community-based services with the aim of enriching the independence and wellness of those we serve ~ Building Abilities for Life.
We assess and treat clients from infancy to their late teens, offering a wide variety of services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy speech and language therapy, social work and therapeutic recreation. We provide treatment in schools, in the community and at our locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg, Campbellford and Minden.
FCCC is proud of the partnerships we have developed within the community. These partnerships have assisted families in our communities to access additional services that are needed to assist with their child’s development.
About the Job:
We are accepting applications for an immediate vacancy in our Peterborough office for a temporary Recreation Therapist. This position will be for an 18-month assignment, starting in June of 2026.
In this position, you will provide therapeutic recreation services including assessment, intervention, consultation and discharge of children and adolescents. You will provide consultation, training and education to clients, their caregivers and other professionals.
You will also facilitate connections with community services needed for transition to/and independent participation within the community of the client.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide assessment, treatment (via functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation) and consultation to children and adolescents with special needs and their families.
- Develop, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs offered through Five Counties at the Centre, virtually and/or in community recreation facilities.
- Community capacity building by creating partnership programs with community providers.
- Comply with relevant Centre statistical, clinical and administrative reporting requirements in a timely manner.
- Comply with Centre’s policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
- Participate in department and centre meetings and committees as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information pertinent to the children and families served by the Centre.
What You Bring:
- University degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a University degree and post-graduate diploma in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
- Minimum requirement of summer employment or internship experience in therapeutic recreation.
- Understanding of the TRO standard of practice.
- Demonstrated ability in supervision, communication, creative problem-solving.
- Demonstrated keen interest in providing and promoting quality inclusive recreation opportunities for children and youth with disabilities.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; reliability, good judgement skills, and initiative.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work within and utilize a family-centred approach in service delivery.
- Ability to work using virtual platform (e.g. TEAMS).
- Ability to work within a team.
- Access to reliable and efficient transportation to travel regularly to other FCCC communities.
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Proof of updated immunizations including COVID-19 (two doses).
- Clear vulnerable sector check.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary range. $72,104-$81,834, commensurate with experience
