Our Mission:

Five Counties Children’s Centre (FCCC) is dedicated to working with families and community partners to provide innovative, evidence-based care for children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs, building their independence and enriching their quality of life.

For 50 years, Five Counties Children’s Centre (FCCC) has been committed to the highest quality of service possible. Last year, our multi-disciplinary health care team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Recreational Therapists, Social Workers, Resource Consultants and Administrative Staff provided care to over 6,200 clients, annually.

Board Director Role Description:

FCCC currently has three (3) vacancies on its Board of Directors for knowledgeable, committed and community-oriented individuals. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who support our vision and mission and want to contribute to the success of our organization.

Qualifications:

Along with having a commitment to FCCC’s mission, we are interested in candidates with strengths in the following areas:

  • Financial Management and/or Oversight
  • Fund Development/Fundraising
  • Governance
  • Project Management
  • Clinical/Healthcare Experience

Responsibilities:

The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to our clients and their families, our funders, and stakeholders. Board Directors are expected to bring their skills and experience to the role; understand and demonstrate a commitment to our mission and vision; and act in the best long-term interests of Five Counties Children’s Centre. Board Directors are required to make the following commitments during their tenure on the Board:

  • A minimum of one three-year term (with the opportunity to renew twice)
  • Attend and come prepared for in-person Board and virtual Committee meetings
  • Contribute skills and knowledge by actively participating in meetings, committee work, and/or Board-related volunteer work
  • Participate in the review and approval of the annual budget
  • Exercise due diligence with the discharge of your responsibilities
  • Monitor the organization’s performance in relation to its strategic objectives
  • Participate in the development of a strategic plan
  • Abide by the by-laws, conflict of interest, confidentiality, and other policies applicable to Directors
  • Help establish, review, and monitor governance policies if/when applicable
  • Identify additional prospective Board and/or committee members
  • Participate in an annual board self-evaluation
  • Participate in the CEO’s hiring (if/when applicable) and performance evaluation
  • Be an ambassador for the organization and/or contribute meaningfully to fundraising endeavours
  • Time commitment of approximately 8-10 hours per month (including meetings).

In addition, all candidates will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills;
  • Strong consensus building skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment;
  • Experience and/or awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion issues including anti-oppressive practice.

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their motivation and interest in applying to serve on the Board of Directors. Previous Board/governance experience would be considered an asset with particular interest in candidates who live in Peterborough, Northumberland, City of Kawartha Lakes or Haliburton County.

Candidates who are short-listed will be interviewed by members of the Board’s Executive Committee. Candidates that are recommended for the slate must successfully complete a police check with the police criminal record check (cost will be paid for by the Centre) and must meet all eligibility requirements as described in the relevant By-law article(s) and Board policy. Reference checks will be conducted.
