PETERBOROUGH, ON (June 7, 2023) – The number ‘5’ features prominently in the upcoming Peterborough Century 21 Lakers season, and not just because of their ‘drive for five’ quest to win another Mann Cup lacrosse title.

The Lakers are also lending an assist to Five Counties Children’s Centre this season as part of a partnership forged between the two organizations.

Lakers ticket assist program visualThe partnership includes the launch of the new Five Counties Ticket Assist Program that will see a group of children and youth who receive treatment at the Centre get free tickets to every Lakers’ home game this season, allowing them to enjoy the game action and cheer on the team to victory. Five Counties and the Lakers are grateful to the Ticket Assist sponsors: Y-Drive, Imprinted Apparel, and Dr. Christopher Moore Family and Cosmetic Dentistry.

Five Counties staff, volunteers and families will be providing face painting and other activities at the Lakers’ tailgating party prior to their home opener on Thursday (June 8). A group of Lakers’ players and representatives will return the visit, as they participate in Five Counties’ Backyard Summer Social fundraiser on June 24.

The highlight of the partnership is the first-ever Little Lakers Night planned for the Lakers’ final regular season home game on July 27. Five Counties staff, volunteers and families will be present at the game, holding a raffle, organizing face painting and other activities, and taking part in the ceremonial pre-game ball drop.

“The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers and Five Counties Children’s Centre are a winning combination, and we’re very pleased to be partnering with the team on some wonderful initiatives for our kids and families,” says Scott Pepin, CEO with Five Counties. “Five Counties is honoured to be part of the Lakers’ ‘drive for five’ this season.”

For their part, the Lakers are happy to partner with Five Counties on these exciting initiatives, says team spokesperson Jordan Winch.

“The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers believe in giving back to the community – on and off the floor – so we are thrilled to work with Five Counties to spotlight its services and welcome kids and families who use the Centre’s services to enjoy thrilling lacrosse action live and in person,” says Winch, the Lakers’ Coordinator of Marketing, Sales and Community Events.

The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers made history during the 2022 season, winning their fourth consecutive Canadian Mann Cup Championship.
